Gerald Virgil is the Content Editor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has been a member of numerous choral ensembles throughout Chicago, including the choirs of Holy Name Cathedral, Saint James Cathedral, Rockefeller Chapel, Hyde Park Union Church. He has appeared as a soloist and chorister on recordings of the choirs of Chicago's historic Saint John Cantius Church with Sony Classical. He also is a former member of both the Chicago Symphony Chorus and Chicago a cappella. His appearances as soloist have included Mozart’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah as well as other sacred works by Bach, Haydn, Schubert, and Mendelssohn. As a student at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (formerly the Chicago Musical College), he was invited to participate in the master classes of noted vocal accompanist Dalton Baldwin and composer Lee Hoiby. Born and reared in Louisiana, Gerald Virgil holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Roosevelt University, respectively.
